Quentin Le Paih and Melvin Josselin, members of Bionics, attended the 3rd Joint ESA/NASA Conference on Advanced Manufacturing (WAMS26), held at ESTEC – ESA in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. This event brings together researchers and engineers from the space and advanced manufacturing sectors to share the latest advances in this field. During his first presentation, Quentin presented part of his PhD research, carried out at the CompoMorph joint laboratory with Coriolis Composites. His presentation, entitled “4D Printing of Large-Scale thermoplastic composite laminates : from experimental quantification of residual stresses to investigation of shelf-shaping mechanisms ”, explored how the residual stresses generated during the printing process can be characterised and exploited to induce the self-forming behaviour of thermoplastic composite structures. Melvin Josselin presented his work on the MorphoComp4D project, showcasing his work conducted in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Concordia University. His research contributes to the growing field of morphing composite structures for space applications.
